No senior citizen rail concession to NRIs, foreigners

New Delhi : Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has stopped the senior citizen concession in rail tickets to foreign nationals and non-resident Indians (NRIs). In the orders effective from September 29, only senior citizens of the Indian nationality and permanently residing in India will get the concession. The concession is 40% of the fare for males of 60 years and above and 60% in case of females of 58 years and above. Earlier in June, the Railways had urged the senior citizens to forego concession if they can afford to pay full for the reserved class tickets. To make them aware of the cost borne by the taxpayer, it is also printing the real cost on the tickets.
