Iran Human Rights reports 92 dead during protests over Mahsa Amini – Norway-based human rights organization tries to assess number of victims despite internet outages and blockades of mobile apps and other online services in Iran

The Iranian human rights organization Human Rights reported that at least  92 people have been killed in the wave of protests unleashed across the country following the death of a young Iranian-Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini , detained by the Moral Police for not wearing the veil properly.

To this count should be added the 41 deaths recorded at the hands of the Iranian security forces in the clashes that broke out last week in the city of Zahedan , in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan .

“The deaths of protesters in Iran, in particular in Zahedan, are crimes against humanity. The international community has a duty to investigate these crimes and prevent the Islamic Republic from committing more crimes” – Mahmud Amiri-Moghaddam, director of Iran Human Rights.

According to Iran Human Rights , the protest in Zahedan was sparked by accusations that a police chief in the port city of Chabahar , also in Sistan-Baluchistan province , had raped a 15-year-old girl from the Sunni minority. baluch .

In total, 133 people have died in the country  since the start of this wave of riots over the death of Amini , who was arrested on September 13 and died three days after falling into a coma after fainting in a detention center , amid of complaints about torture and ill-treatment.

The Moral Police denied the accusations of torture and ill-treatment and the Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi , promised an investigation into these events , however, he described the demonstrations for the death of the 22-year-old as “unacceptable” .
