Southall ‘Little India of UK’ Unplugged With Its Councillor KC Mohan
Karam Chand Mohan has been living in Southall, a large suburban district of West London for about 40 years. The area is home to London’s largest Sikh community, with Desi shops ranging from Salwar-Kameez suits and Saris to Mata ki Chunri. International tourists and Brits from all over the country visit Southall for its restaurants, serving some of the best Indian and Pakistani cuisine, including Karhai Gosht, Sarson Ka saag, Makai ki Roti and hot Jalebis. Over 55% of Southall’s population of 70,000 is Indian/Pakistani. There are ten Sikh Gurdwaras, two large Hindu Mandirs, more than ten Christian churches and five Mosques in Southall. Popularly called KC, Karam Chand Mohan is a well known writer of poetry and short stories in his mother tongue, Punjabi. He is in conversation with Pervaiz Alam.
